What does the McKinney Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association do for the McKinney Police Department?

Our largest program to support the police is the annual Awards Banquet. With generous donations from the citizens and businesses of McKinney, we plan, produce, and stage this yearly event that honors those in the department that go above and beyond for our city. The department’s awards committee provides recognition to officers, civilian employees and citizen volunteers in a variety of categories, including life saving and the best in every department for the year. We also stage a number of events throughout the year to benefit the police, including one just for employees’ and officers’ children: “Cookies with Santa,” where families can bring in their children to meet Santa and get photos at the police headquarters.

How can I be a part of the McKinney Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association?

In order to join our Alumni, you must first take the McKinney Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week course that meets one evening per week, where you’ll learn about all aspects of police work. The course is taught by officers, civilian employees and volunteers. After graduation, you’ll be invited to join the Alumni group and help us in our work. Some graduates may also opt to apply to join the McKinney Citizens on Patrol, and all-volunteer group that acts as a force-multiplier for the police department, working to assist uniformed officers with traffic, accidents, stranded motorists, and special events.

How old must you be to participate?

You can apply to the McKinney Citizens Police Academy after reaching your 18th birthday. Currently, we require those that apply for the Citizens on Patrol program to be 21 or older.
